2022 AT&T Byron Nelson odds, field: Surprising PGA picks, predictions from model that’s nailed 8 majors

Jordan Spieth returns to action for the first time since winning the RBC Heritage when he tees off in the 2022 AT&T Byron Nelson, which begins on Thursday at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas. The 13-time PGA Tour champion has three career victories in Texas, and he’ll be looking for another strong showing this week at TPC Craig Ranch. The AT&T Byron Nelson 2022 is the final tune-up before next week’s PGA Championship, the second major of the year.

According to the latest 2022 AT&T Byron Nelson odds from Caesars Sportsbook, Spieth is listed at 18-1 to finish on top of the leaderboard. The three-time major champion trails Scottie Scheffler (9-1), Justin Thomas (10-1) and Xander Schauffele (16-1) on the PGA odds board. Before locking in your 2022 AT&T Byron Nelson picks, be sure to see the golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine.

SportsLine’s proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June of 2020. In fact, it’s up over $9,000 on its best bets since that point, nailing tournament after tournament.

At the 2022 Masters, McClure’s model was all over Scottie Scheffler’s first career major championship victory heading into the weekend.  In addition, McClure’s best bets included Max Homa winning outright at the 2022 Wells Fargo Championship, even though he was listed as a massive 41-1 long shot.

This same model has also nailed a whopping eight majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now that the AT&T Byron Nelson 2022 field is locked, SportsLine simulated the event 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected 2022 AT&T Byron Nelson leaderboard.

The model’s top 2022 AT&T Byron Nelson predictions

One major surprise the model is calling for at the 2022 AT&T Byron Nelson: Xander Schauffele, a five-time PGA Tour champion and one of the top favorites, stumbles this week and barely cracks the top 10. The 28-year-old teamed up with Patrick Cantlay to win the Zurich Classic in April, the only team event on the PGA Tour.

However, Schauffele has struggled mightily in recent weeks, finishing T-35 or worse in three of his last five starts on the PGA Tour, which includes a pair of missed cuts. In addition, Schauffele has been extremely inconsistent with his putter all season, ranking 65th in strokes gained: putting (.215), 76th in overall putting average (1.590) and 85th in one-putt percentage (40.80%), which doesn’t bode well for his chances to win this week. He’s not a strong pick to win it all and there are far better values in the AT&T Byron Nelson 2022 field.

Another surprise: Will Zalatoris, a 22-1 long shot, makes a strong run at the title. He has a much better chance to win it all than his odds imply, so he’s a target for anyone looking for a huge payday.

Zalatoris enters this week’s event full of confidence. That’s because the 25-year-old has already secured five top-10 finishes this season, which includes finishing T-6 or better in each of his last three starts.

Zalatoris has racked up 168 birdies in 2021-22, a 4.20 per round average. He’s been able to consistently rack up birdies thanks to his impressive iron play. In fact, Zalatoris enters the AT&T Byron Nelson ranked second in strokes gained: approach the green (1.048) and 11th in greens in regulation percentage (70.56). Those impressive stats, plus his long odds, make him a strong value pick for your 2022 AT&T Byron Nelson bets this week.
