The Green Bay Packers are hoping for big accomplishments from their 2022 rookie class. And they’re going to need it if they want to fill their Super Bowl aspirations.
General manager Brian Gutekunst drafts for the future, but there are still high expectations in Year 1 for this 11-man class that includes six selections in the first four rounds. With that in mind, let’s rank the five most likely rookies to make an immediate impact in their first NFL season.
These five members of the Green Bay Packers 2022 NFL Draft class are the most likely rookies to make an immediate impact this season.
5. Sean Rhyan
The Packers once again added multiple offensive linemen, including adding Sean Rhyan with their third-round pick. Rhyan has positional versatility that will give a couple of opportunities to earn a starting spot if his play is up to the challenge. Rhyan played left tackle at UCLA and could slide over to right tackle if he can beat out Yosh Nijman. If not, he could also slide inside and compete for a starting job at one of the guard positions.
4. Romeo Doubs
Despite being the second wide receiver Green Bay drafted, Romeo Doubs may have a stronger case to be the most impactful wide receiver this season. Doubs has the route-running skills and athleticism to make an immediate impact. He also has a lot smaller of a learning curve than second-round selection Christian Watson. His size and speed combination will give him a chance to rise on the depth chart during training camp and preseason.
3. Quay Walker
The first Packers selection of the draft finds himself at no. 3, in part, because of who is ahead of him on the depth chart. With De’Vondre Campbell holding down the starting job and Green Bay rarely using two inside linebackers at the same time, Walker may not have as many opportunities as other guys on this list. However, the Packers could create more snaps for Walker if he proves up to the challenge. They have depth issues at safety and cornerback, giving Walker an opening to earn more playing time.
2. Christian Watson
Christian Watson’s talent is spilling over and waiting to be harnessed into a productive NFL player. His ceiling is higher than anyone in the Packers’ draft class and, perhaps, the highest at his position as well. However, he’s raw and has a lot of work to do. He’ll still have plenty of chances given the lack of proven wide receivers on the Packers’ depth chart and Green Bay’s desperate need for his speed.
1. Devonte Wyatt
Speaking of run-down positions, the defensive line has been a big question mark in Green Bay for years. However, it may be making a comeback with the addition of free agent signing Jarran Reed and first-round selection Devonte Wyatt. Wyatt will have the opportunity to be on the field a ton if he can beat out less-talented players. He may not have as much of a box score impact, but he can eat space and blockers, thus creating chances for his guys behind him.
