Jyoti Lokhande had left her studies several years ago but decided to pick up her books again at her husband’s motivation.

Gathering her wits, Jyoti, who grew up in the Pimple Gurav neighbourhood of Pune, returned to school when her husband died.

She enrolled in a night school and appeared for the Maharashtra HSC Exam 2022. Despite a slew of challenges, Jyoti Lokhande was adamant on passing her Class 12 board exam.

OVERCOMING ALL OBSTACLES

In the subjects of Marathi, accounts, and management, Jyoti Lokhande received a 63 out of 100. Locals are praising the mother of two for her unwavering spirit.

Maharashtra Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad shared her story in a tweet, while commenting on the “courage and resilience of our students”.

WHAT KEPT HER GOING

Jyoti told local press that her husband’s memories encouraged her to keep learning.

She looked after her two children, her elderly mother-in-law, and her differently-abled sister-in-law, all the while preparing for the Class 12 board exams.

Jyoti stated that she wished to serve as an example to her two children.

Jyoti had to take over the family’s financial responsibilities after her husband passed away a year ago. She learned to sew and has since turned it into a source of income.
