PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Marshall boys golf takes first, girls second in conference meets | News, Sports, Jobs


WORTHINGTON/WINDOM — The Marshall boys golf team competed in the Worthington Invite on Monday while the Marshall girls team competed in the Windom Area Invite. On the boys side, Marshall took first with a team score of 329, followed by Luverne in second (337) while Pipestone Area and Windom Area tied for third (358), Redwood Valley took fifth (365) and Worthington took sixth (374). On the girls side, Marshall took second with a 401, with Redwood Valley taking first (352), Worthington taking third (408) and Luverne taking fourth (416).

Boys

For Marshall, Luke Ehlers led with a 72 to earn medalist honors while Jayden Manthei tied for third with an 82, Sam Schwarz tied for seventh with an 85, Evan Franson and Zach Kramer tied for 14th with a 90 and Joey Fossum tied for 21st with a 93.

Girls

For Marshall, Taylor Miller led with a 94 to take fifth while Grace Ehlers took seventh with a 97, Jaryn Hilgemann took 12th with a 104, Brooklyn Gossen tied for 14th with a 106 and Eryn Kraft and Dayton Webskowski tied for 17th with a 108.

The Marshall boys team will compete on Friday against Lakeview at home at 4:30 p.m. while the girls team will compete next Monday at Dacotah Ridge at 1 p.m.

NUC Invite

NEW ULM — The Wabasso boys and girls golf teams competed in the New Ulm Cathedral Invite on Monday, with the boys team taking sixth with a team score of 411 and the girls team recording an incomplete team score. On the boys side, Sleepy Eye United took first with a 377, followed by Minnesota Valley Lutheran in second (383) and New Ulm Cathedral in third (391). On the girls side, Cedar Mountain took first with a 443, followed by Sleepy Eye United in second (453) and MVL in third (512).

For Wabasso, on the boys side, Wyatt Soupir led with a 98 while Jayden Goblish had a 99, Alex Alvarez had a 102, Aidan Lanoue had a 112, Michael Rothmeier had a 116 and Jamison Rohlik had a 123.

On the girls side, Chloe Rohlik led with a 110 while Jasmine Kuehn had a 122 and Shayna Huhnerkoch had a 129.

Wabasso will compete today at RRC at 4 p.m.

Baseball

Marshall 6, Luverne 4

LUVERNE — The Marshall baseball team defeated Luverne 6-4 on Monday.

Tyler Maeyaert led Marshall with two hits and two RBIs while Charlie Jacobson added two hits and Talan Plante had a two-run home run. Jacob Eben earned the win on the mound, going six innings while allowing four runs on nine hits and struck out four.

Marshall (6-5) will face Worthington at home today at 5:30 p.m.

GRANITE FALLS — The Yellow Medicine East baseball team fell to Dawson-Boyd 3-2 on Monday.

Jake Odegard led YME with two hits while Cody Dahlager, Israel Eakes, Drew Almich and Isaac Jimenez each had a hit. Nikson Knapper took the loss on the mound, going seven innings while allowing three runs on two hits and struck out 10.

Brayden Hahn led DB with a hit and two RBIs while Ryan Lund added a hit and an RBI. Blake Thompson earned the win on the mound, going seven innings while allowing two runs on six hits and struck out four.

YME (3-3) will face RRC/WWG on the road today at 6:30 p.m. while DB (5-2) will face MACCRAY on the road on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

RUTHTON — The Russell-Tyler-Ruthton baseball team defeated Tracy-Milroy-Balaton 11-1 in six innings on Monday.

Aiden Wichmann led RTR with two hits and four RBIs while Blake Christianson and Hayden Gravley each added two hits and two RBIs and Dylan Anderson and Logan Lamote each had two hits and an RBI. Cody Wichmann earned the win on the mound, going five innings while allowing one run on three hits and struck out 10.

Brandon Duscher led TMB with two hits while Tanner Hauger added a hit. Ashton Squires took the loss on the mound, going four innings while allowing nine runs on 11 hits and struck out six.

RTR (4-5) will face RCW on the road on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. while TMB (8-3) will face Minneota on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in Milroy.

WABASSO — The Wabasso softball team defeated Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 6-5 on Monday.

Callie Burns led Wabasso with three hits and an RBI while Sophia Hanna added two hits and two RBIs and Kelsey Fischer and Kelsey Frank each had a hit. Avery Carlson earned the win in the circle.

Wabasso (12-6) will face Sleepy Eye on the road on Thursday at 5 p.m.

MACCRAY 7, DB 1

DB 7, MACCRAY 1

DAWSON — The Dawson-Boyd softball team split a pair of games against MACCRAY on Monday, falling in Game 1 7-1 before winning Game 2 7-1.

In Game 1, Madison Peterson led DB with two hits while Kate Dahl, Madalyn Wente and Taylen Jorgenson each had a hit, with Wente recording an RBI. Alivia Haas took the loss in the circle, going seven innings while allowing seven runs on eight hits and struck out five.

In Game 2, Dahl led DB with two hits and an RBI while Allison Estling added two hits and Jorgenson had a hit and an RBI. Estling earned the win in the circle, going six innings while allowing seven runs on six hits and struck out five.

DB (3-9) will face YME on the road on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
