Who won the Belmont Stakes in 2022? Full results, finish order & highlights from the race

Mike from Queens got to see his two horses finish first and second in New York’s biggest race.

Mike Repole, who owns Mo Donegal and filly Nest, watched as Mo Donegal passed We the People and Skippylongstocking on the outside in the stretch of the 2022 Belmont Stakes. Once clear, Mo Donegal powered ahead, leaving the rest of the field well behind. The filly Nest finished second.

Repole said he watched replays of the 2011 Belmont Stakes 150 times when his horse, Stay Thirsty, finished second. He said the first- and second-place finishes Saturday make up for the narrow loss 11 years ago.

“Honestly, this is the biggest goal I had in my racing life and I just accomplished it and I ran 1-2,” Repole told the NBC broadcast.

We the People led out of the gate and was battling on the front with Skippylongstocking for much of the race before Mo Donegal and Nest made their moves.

Mo Donegal is ridden by Irad Ortiz Jr. and trained by Todd Pletcher. Repole owns a minority share of Donegal Racing, which is owned by its founder, Jerry Crawford.
